Denise and Mike
When you meet the right person, you just know. Everyone says that, but it’s really true. I always thought relationships were such hard work and involved so much pain and suffering. I nearly gave up. I was about to cancel my subscription and stop dating all together. A friend was visiting from New York and we were discussing how ridiculous the whole thing was, when I saw Mike's profile. eHarmony matched us up. He was an academic (like I am), he stated he wanted to meet comedians (I'm a professional comedian), he loved cats, seemed quite sensual and we had various things in common. I emailed him. We went through the questions and finally were able to start emailing. He sent me some jokes. I didn't want to read them because often people say "I'm soooooo funny" and they're not at all, but I don't want to be rude. However, his jokes were so funny that even before we went on a date, I tried one of them on stage and it worked beautifully! After about a week (or more?) of corresponding we went on our first date. He seemed pretty nervous but it was obvious we had a lot of chemistry. It was so fun that he asked if I wanted to go for tea afterwards. We did. He still would have wanted to hang out but it was getting late. We went out again to dinner.
On our third date we went to a concert of a friend of mine and he held my hand and even put his arm around me. I had a feeling this was it. We came back to my place and watched “The Big Lebowski” and we’ve been together ever since.
We are celebrating our one year anniversary on September 14, 2008. Mike has a Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience and teaches computer programming so he's not your traditional guy by any stretch of the imagination. He’s inspired me as I finish my own Ph.D. in political science. Politics, comedy and cats are my three passions. Mike shares all three of these with me. We make each other laugh so often that we both have to have tape recorders or pads of paper nearby to capture the best lines. He also plays guitar and was in a band, has starred in plays, goes skydiving, speaks a number of languages and is currently learning Japanese. He may not be everyone's dream man but he sure is mine.
