Outdoor Winter Date Ideas

outdoor winter date ideas

It’s about to get much colder outside — but that doesn’t mean you have to head indoors on date night this winter.

Here are some outdoor winter date ideas we love:

Be a kid again.

Bundle up and play in the snow. Go tobogganing. Start a snowball fight. Build a snowman together. And when you can no longer feel your face, head indoors for some hot chocolate.

Do good.

Shovel snow for the elderly. Help a neighbour string up her Christmas lights. Build a snow fort with some kids in your neighbourhood while their parents go Christmas shopping. The couple that serves together, stays together.

Work up a sweat.

Stave off that dreaded winter weight and get moving. Head to the country and explore new trails on cross-country skis. Rent snowshoes together. Or reenact a scene from every romantic winter movie ever made and go skating, hand in hand, at a local outdoor rink.

Stick close to home.

Shop local this winter. Check out the goods at nearby boutiques and outdoor markets — dart into coffee shops to warm up and get caffeinated — and pick up a few artisan goods to make date night special.

When the sun goes down, go for a stroll around the neighbourhood, admiring the twinkling lights and holiday decorations. If you’re feeling especially brave, go carolling.

Head to a farm.

Make taffy in the snow at a sugar bush. Pick out a Christmas tree together, Griswold-style, at a tree farm. Go for a drive and take photos of snow-blanketed landscapes. Sometimes you just need to get out of the city to really appreciate winter.

Embrace some holiday spirit.

With official tree-lighting ceremonies, churches hosting live Nativity scenes, historic villages decked out to celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas, and Santa Claus due to parade through the streets, there are plenty of opportunities to get into the holiday spirit. Embrace a little childlike wonder together this winter.
