7 Vancouver Summer Date Ideas

Every Canadian knows it’s true: Vancouver wins for best summer weather in the nation.

So grab a date and head outside while the temperatures are inviting — and before the rains come. Here are some summer date ideas for Vancouverites:

1. Vancouver Summer Date Idea: Go for a Hike

Hike through Lynn Canyon Park, stop for a picnic, and go for a dip under a waterfall. Work those glutes on the Grouse Grind — aka “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster” — or pick one of dozens of lower mainland hiking trails sure to help you work up a sweat and enjoy the great outdoors together.

2. Vancouver Summer Date Idea: Watch the Sunset from the Beach

Tote a grill and a cooler to one of Vancouver’s many gorgeous beaches and enjoy a meal by the water as the sun goes down. Skip the crowds and head to Spanish Banks, one of the area’s least crowded beaches, or fish off the pier at Jericho Beach with its breathtaking views of the North Shore Mountains.

3. Vancouver Summer Date Idea: Stop and Smell the Roses

When was the last time you were a tourist in your own city? Stroll hand-in-hand through the Stanley Park Rose Garden, or get caught up in the romance of waterfalls and manicured landscapes at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Quarry Gardens. Bonus: both parks are free.

4. Vancouver Summer Date Idea: Bard on the Beach

Like Shakespeare? Bard on the Beach, located on the waterfront in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit professional Shakespeare Festivals. 2015’s lineup includes The Comedy of Errors, King Lear and Love’s Labour Lost. 5. Vancouver Summer Date Idea: Vancouver International Jazz Festival

If you and your date enjoy live music, don’t miss the best of the best.

The Seattle Times called the Vancouver International Jazz Festival the “best jazz festival in the world.” From mid-June to Canada Day, you can catch hundreds of world-renowned musicians at various venues throughout the city, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the festival.

6. Vancouver Summer Date Idea: Outdoor Ballroom Dancing

Wish you could up your dance game with your date at wedding receptions this summer? Look no further.

Starting on June 26th, you can dance your Friday nights away at Robson Square thanks to the Robson Square Summer Dance Series, courtesy of DanceSport BC. For ten weeks — rain or shine — you’ll find free dancing, lessons and performances just behind the Vancouver Art Gallery. (Beginner dance lessons start at 8 p.m.)

7. Vancouver Summer Date Idea: Food Cart Fest

The couple that eats together stays together.

Starting on June 28th, every Sunday afternoon this summer you’ll find Food Cart Fest set up not far from the Olympic Village. Bring your date and your appetite and sample mouthwatering offerings from 20 of the city’s top food carts. Also on hand are DJs, live music, local food vendors and activities for the kids. Donate a nonperishable food item to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and your entrance to the event is free.
