Darrin, a professional firefighter and I, a teacher, coach, and gym owner had all but given up trying to find that someone special. We both had been through divorces, the "online thing", blind dates by friends, and were sick and tired of hearing people say, "I just don't understand why you're still single!"

I (Diana) had a couple friends who kept telling me about eHarmony. So one day I finally gave in and logged on with absolute certainty that it wouldn't work! I was quickly surprised by the complexity and completeness of the   personality profile!  I answered my questions carefully and honestly and began to get anxious for my matches to fill up my email inbox. We agreed to meet at Starbucks and I knew he was different from the beginning because he called to tell me that he was running a few minutes late because his station had had a bad fire that morning and he wasn't able to leave on time. What impressed me was the fact that he showed up after almost 24 hours with no sleep, no shower after fighting a fire (and yes, he did smell like smoke!), and then apologized for being a few minutes late!

From the moment we met, it was as if we'd known each other a lifetime. There was never any awkwardness, no uncomfortable first few dates... we seemed to gel together like two peas in a pod. He was so different from anyone I had ever dated... in fact he was so nice I kept telling him it was too good to be true! Even to this day we finish each other's sentences, we'll start saying the same thing without knowing the other was about to say it, and can't remember what life was like before we met.

It's the compatibility that really made a difference for us. Never have either of us felt so completely at ease with someone... We enjoy the same things, have similar hobbies, have the same goals and dreams in life and, at times, it seems as if we are simply "one". We can now appreciate the efforts eHarmony has made to help people connect based on compatibility. Darrin and I both strongly agree that it works!
