Long Distance

Ian and Josie

Location: Friday Harbor, WA
Married: November 7th, 2008

Sometimes you’re lucky.

When we first swapped notes on eHarmony, it seemed like we had a lot of things to talk about. We both like whales, the ocean, doing things outside, and playing word games.

Sometimes you’re lucky.

When we finally met, we found even more to share. All of this was great but there was one small problem -- we lived two ferry rides and a country away from each other. This meant that every time we wanted to visit each other, we had to plan a half day’s travel just to get there. One of the ways we knew things were going well was that the distance didn’t really seem to matter.

Sometimes you’re lucky.

As our kids got to know each other and we organized our work lives, Josie came from British Columbia to Ian’s island off the coast of Washington state and it seemed like a good idea to get married.

And now we feel we’re two of the luckiest people around.

We would like to let anyone who thinks that distance is a reason not to be together, please think again. It’s as much a binding and memorable challenge to overcome as it is an excuse not to be together. Sorting out how we were going to meet the challenge gave us the assurance that if we could do this, we’d be ready for other challenges as well.
