Greg Waldorf Steps Down as CEO of eHarmony after
Five-Year Tenure Company Achieves Record-Setting 2010 and Structured for Strong 2011
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 18, 2011 — Greg Waldorf, longtime CEO and member of the Board of Directors, has resigned from eHarmony after more than 11 years of total service to the company.
“It has been a privilege to serve as the CEO of this great company, and as eHarmony begins its second decade, the time is right for me to step down,” said Waldorf. “The decision to leave the wonderful people of eHarmony who work so hard each day for the benefit of our customers around the world was not an easy one. I’m confident that the team will continue to deliver on its promise to eHarmony members who entrust us to help them find the love of their lives.”
Waldorf was first introduced to eHarmony in late 1999 before it had launched and became the company’s founding investor in 2000. He was also a key advisor and board member in the company’s early years, culminating in his appointment as CEO in 2006.
“Without Greg’s involvement, eHarmony never would have happened. From before our beginnings he guided us all along the way.” said Dr. Neil Clark Warren, eHarmony’s Founder and Chairman of the Board. “Greg is a man of uncommon wisdom and decency which has contributed heavily to our success. We thank him for his leadership over many years, and we will miss him.”
During Waldorf’s five-year tenure as CEO, the company expanded substantially with new investments in its proprietary matching systems as well as its global growth initiatives. Today, through eHarmony and its affiliates, singles around the world looking for quality long-term relationships are able to use eHarmony’s unique approach to matchmaking.
eHarmony achieved many important milestones during 2010:
- According to research Harris Interactive conducted for eHarmony, 542 Americans marry on an average day after meeting through eHarmony, nearly 5% of new marriages in the U.S. from January 2008 to June 2009.
- eHarmony ended the year with a record number of subscribers.
- eHarmony launched in Brazil and revenue from international markets tripled.
- eHarmony opened its Tokyo office to support an early 2011 launch of eHarmony Japan.
- eHarmony launched mobile applications for iOS and Android devices, which now account for approximately 20% of global site visits. Consumers now look at eHarmony profiles more than 16,000 times per hour while using mobile devices.
President and COO Greg Steiner, an 11-year eHarmony veteran, has completed a transition of Waldorf’s responsibilities and will lead the business while the Board of Directors conducts a CEO search.
“Greg Waldorf is a wonderful colleague and friend, and we will continue to build upon the foundation he laid during his tenure,” said Steiner. “We have a great team in place with a bright future, and I am confident that we can meet our aggressive growth plans for 2011 and beyond.”
